New Logo Released
Tuesday, November 27, 2012, Birds of Ohio.com released the new logo that has been being created during the past week. It is in two designs, and the two new logo designs are shown, below:
Webmaster and founder of Birds of Ohio.com, Junior Barnes, chose the Ivory Billed Woodpecker as the bird to be featured on the logo. The last reported sighting of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker was in Florida in 2005. Many now beleive the bird to be extinct, but according to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, their team reported 15 sightings of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker with sufficient details about the seven of the fifteen sightings.
"February 11, 2004: At about 1:30 P.M., while kayaking through the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas, Gene Sparling of Hot Springs, Arkansas, watched as a huge and unusual woodpecker with a red crest flew toward him and landed on a nearby tree. The bird hitched around the tree in what he later described as a "herky jerky" or "cartoon-like" motion. Sparling noticed several field marks suggesting that the bird was an Ivory-billed Woodpecker." Junior, however, is a pesimist, and believes the birds to have been Pileated Woodpeckers that were re-created into Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers by hopeful lab members' imaginations. Read the article on Cornell's website about the sightings: https://www.birds.cornell.edu/ivory/evidence/sevenSightings
Each logo will be used occasionally, but each for different purposes. The second logo, for instance, will be used in publications for an ink-saver (if it is ever in print), and the first will be used on-line. The first is the primary logo, while the second is the secondary (obviously) logo.
